Problem Statement and Purpose:

Renewable energy such as wind can be inefficient and unpleasant to look at, our purpose will be to engineer more efficient, smaller scale wind energy production that will not impede local landscape views.

Specifications and Requirements:

The design must be of competitive cost and superior production capacity to comparable generation methods, be easily serviceable, have a 10+ year lifespan, withstand 100mph sustained wind, and have a more desirable appearance.  

Assumptions:

The user wants an aesthetically pleasing, autonomous, on site renewable energy production system.

Strategy Number 1: Efficiency and Cost

Our first strategy is to create an efficient and durable wind turbine, since the majority of consumers will look for this as a criterion. The first photo represents a vertical wind turbine.

Our second strategy is to create an aesthetically pleasing, yet efficient and durable wind turbine. The bottom photo represents a sketch of a shrouded turbine.

Lessons Learned: 

Waiting until the 11th hour to complete projects requires lots of coffee, Sketching is not a strong suit and the coming up with original ideas can be troublesome.
